Silicon Nitride Ceramic
Silicon nitride ceramic is an inorganic ceramic material that does not shrink during sintering. The silicon nitride has high strength, especially hot-pressed silicon nitride, which is one of the hardest substances in the world. What’s more, silicon nitride ceramics have a Mohs hardness of 9 – 9.5 and a Vickers hardness of approximately 1550. Moreover, it has properties such as high strength, low density and high temperature resistance.
Details of Silicon Nitride Ceramic
Si3N4 ceramics are one of the structural ceramic materials with the best comprehensive performance at present and it is known as the “all-round ceramic”. However, it will break over time in a working environment above 1200℃(2192℉), reducing its strength. It is also more prone to fatigue damage above 1450℃(2642℉). Therefore, the operating temperature of silicon nitride material and silicon nitride crucible generally does not exceed 1300℃(2372℉). In addition, silicon nitride oxide ceramic and aluminum nitride ceramics are widely used in aerospace, automotive, electronics and other fields.
Si3N4 Ceramics for Industrial Equipment Parts
Mechanical industry: bearings, high-speed turning tools, engine scrapers, guide vanes and turbine blades of gas turbines;
Metallurgical industry: crucibles, burners, castings, riser thermocouple temperature protection sleeves and aluminum electrolytic cell linings;
Chemical industry: ball valves, pump bodies, sealing rings, filters, heat exchanger components and evaporating dishes;
Semiconductor industry: circuit substrates, film capacitors or electrical insulators that withstand high temperatures or temperature changes;
Defense industry: radomes, missile tail nozzles, bulletproof armor, supports and isolation parts in atomic reactors;
Medical engineering: artificial joints.
Sintered Silicon Nitride Ceramic Production Process
The production process of silicon nitride ceramics mainly includes powder preparation, powder mixing and granulation, pressing and molding, green body machining, sintering, grinding and polishing and quality inspection. Among them, powder preparation and sintering are the two most core links. In addition, the quality of silicon nitride powder can greatly affect the final performance of silicon nitride ceramics.
In powder preparation, what Kerui pays the most attention to is the quality of raw materials. Therefore, we use high-purity silicon nitride as raw material for silicon nitride machining. Sintering molding is to sinter the green body in a high-temperature sintering furnace. This makes the ceramic particles bond to each other, the grains grow and the pores and grain boundary gaps are reduced. Finally, we make the silicon nitride insulator into a dense and hard polycrystalline Si3N4 ceramics body. For details on the production process, visit our Facebook homepage.
