What are Chrome Magnesite Bricks?

The chromite bricks are a composite alkaline refractory brick containing 18% to 30% chromium oxide and 25% to 55% magnesium oxide, which is made from chromium ore and sintered magnesia as raw materials. When the ratio of chromium ore and sintered magnesia is 50% each, the product has the greatest thermal shock resistance. Sometimes we also call it thermal shock stable chrome magnesia brick, we mainly use it as alkaline open hearth roof brick.

The main components of chrome magnesite bricks are chromium oxide and magnesium oxide. Therefore, it has good thermal stability and refractoriness above 2000℃(3632℉). Generally speaking, we call magnesia-chrome bricks with a chromium ore content of less than 50% and chrome-magnesia bricks with a chromium ore content of greater than or equal to 50%. In addition, Kerui not only produces burnt mag chrome brick fired in a weak oxidizing atmosphere but also sells unburnt mag chrome brick.

4 Types and Properties of Magnesite Chrome Bricks

Common Burnt Chrome Magnesite Bricks

These magnesite refractory bricks have the characteristics of high temperature resistance, strong resistance to alkaline slag erosion, good thermal stability and resistance to spalling. Moreover, it also has a certain adaptability to acidic residues.Kerui Common Burnt Magnesia Chrome Brick

Direct Bonded Chrome Magnesite Bricks

This magnesia brick has fewer impurities and the crystalline phases are directly bonded. It has low porosity, high compressive strength, strong wear resistance, strong erosion resistance, good thermal shock resistance and good spalling resistance.Directly Bonded Magnesia Chrome Bricks

Fused Rebonded Chrome Magnesite Bricks

Fused rebonded chrome magnesia bricks are heatproof bricks with particularly good corrosion resistance. Moreover, its high temperature performance is between that of fused cast magnesia chrome bricks and burnt magnesia chromium bricks.Kerui Fused Bonded Magnesia Chrome Brick

Unburnt Chrome Magnesite Bricks

Compared with burnt magnesite chrome bricks, these wholesale fire bricks have a simplified manufacturing process and low cost. Besides, it also has high normal temperature compressive strength, low porosity and good thermal shock stability.Unburnt Chrome Magnesite Bricks

Application of magnesite chrome bricks

Magnesia chrome bricks have almost replaced magnesium bricks in the steel smelting and non-ferrous metal smelting industries. In addition, the chromium oxide (Cr2O3) contained in it can continue to diffuse, making the magnesia chrome bricks easy to stick to the kiln skin. Therefore, in the past 30 years, it has been a frequently used refractory material in the cement kiln firing zone. The following are the specific application scenarios of magnesia chrome bricks.

  • Used in equipment in the metallurgical industry. Such as constructing open hearth furnace tops, electric furnace tops, external refining furnaces and various non-ferrous metal smelting furnaces;
  • Used in the high-temperature parts of the furnace wall of high-power electric furnaces;
  • Used in the high-erosion area of the refining furnace outside the furnace;
  • Used in the high erosion area of the non-ferrous metal flash smelting furnace;
  • Used in the firing zone of cement rotary kilns and the regenerator of glass kilns.
